KOLKATA: The West Bengal government on Thursday said Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen's security would be reviewed following an attack on a function addressed by her in Hyderabad.

Referring to the attack by activist of the Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) on the book release function in Hyderabad, West Bengal Home Secretary P R Roy said the government had already provided security to Nasreen and this "will be further reviewed".

He said Nasreen's visa, which was to expire this month, had been extended for another six months by the Centre. Nasreen currently lives in Kolkata.

Biman Bose, chairman of the ruling Left Front, criticised the attack and said it was a "wrong" method of protest. There was no justification for the disruption of her function even if the protestors did not agree with her views, he said.

The BJP too condemned the incident and demanded punishment for the attackers.
