Two stadiums to come up in UP

LUCKNOW: After dismantling the Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Stadium in Gomti Nagar recently to facilitate
Chief Minister Mayawati's dream Ambekar Park, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to construct two new stadia in the same locality.

Eight acres of land has been earmarked for the stadium in Vijyant Khand, while the other in Vineet Khand will be spread over five acres of land, a senior official of the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) said.


The Vijyant Khand stadium will have two badminton courts, two table tennis sets, a modern gymnasium, two lawn tennis courts, a volleyball court, a basket ball court, a swimming pool, a 600-m jogging track, an open playground and a multi-purpose lawn, he said.

The stadium in Vineet Khand will have all the above facilities except a swimming pool.

State Minister for Housing Naseemuddin Siddiqui is likely to lay the foundation of the stadia on June 7.

An engineer said the stadiums will cost approximately Rs 12 crore and be completed within a year.

A lot of hue and cry was being raised by a number of sports organisation against the state government's move to dismantle the Ambedkar stadium.
