25-member team in place to crack case

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has finally got the go-ahead to unravel the mystery behind the double murder of 14-year-old Aarushi Talwar and the family’s domestic help Hemraj.

Over three weeks after the sensational murders, CBI sleuths on Sunday re-registered the case filed by the Noida police and started investigations to nail the culprit.

Interestingly, the agency is tight-lipped about the fate of Aarushi’s father Rajesh Talwar who has been named prime accused by the Noida police. He  is currently in judicial custody.

A 25-member team of crime investigators, forensic experts from the central forensic laboratory and the AIIMS visited the Talwar residence to gather clues.

The DPS Noida student was found murdered in her room on the morning of May 16 while Hemraj’s body was recovered from the terrace 36 hours later.

“It’s been 15 days since the murders took place and we do not have the body so it will be difficult to gather forensic evidence. We will try and carry out dummy tests on the basis of the forensic and post-mortem reports to piece together the sequence of events on the day of the murders,” said a senior CBI official who is part of the investigating team.

Meanwhile, over 200 BSF men have been stationed outside the Talwar residence to cordon off the entire area.

Rajesh Talwar’s lawyer Pinaki Mishra said his client’s bail plea would be heard on Monday and Talwar’s fate would depend on what direction the CBI probe took.
“If the CBI wants to take Rajesh into custody then it will be difficult to get him out of jail but we are hopeful since the agency has not named him in the FIR,” he added.
