COIMBATORE: About 200 BJP activists on Saturday burnt an effigy of Congress President Sonia Gandhi at the party office here in retaliation to the burning of an effigy of party state president, L Ganesan on Friday at Chennai.

They also raised slogans against Sonia Gandhi and the UPA government for its 'failure' to control inflation and price rise, police said.

S R Segar, BJP observer for Tamil Nadu and one who led the agitation, alleged that Ganesan's effigy was burnt on Friday at Satyamurthy Bhavan, the Congress headquarters in Chennai for his remarks against Rahul Gandhi.

Ganesan, he said, had stated that BJP has won more seats in areas in Karnataka which Rahul Gandhi visited during the Karnataka elections.

The remarks, 'made democratically and politically' was not being into stride by Congress workers, who also could not stomach the continuous defeats in assembly elections and the growth of the BJP, he added.
