DEHRADUN: A pregnant woman and her husband were allegedly stabbed to death by her four brothers at Haldwani in Nainital district, triggering tension in the town, police said on Thursday.
    
Reshma (26) and her husband Shahabunddin (30), a taxi driver, were allegedly stabbed repeatedly by her four brothers at Banfoolpura area of Haldwani town, SSP Nainital G S Martolia said.
    
The profusely bleeding couple was rushed to a nearby hospital where they succumbed to injuries late last night.
    
Anees, one of Reshma's four brothers, has been arrested and efforts are on to track down the other three wanted in the case.
    
The motive behind the double murder is not yet known. However, police said the four brothers of Reshma were not happy with her love marriage with Shahabuddin last year.
    
Soon after the incident took place an angry mob set the house of Anees on fire and shouted slogans against his family.
    
The situation in the area is tense but under control, the SSP said adding that adequate police personnel have been deployed there to avert any untoward incident.
