NEW DELHI: BJP on Thursday joined the political game of oneupmanship over the Arushi Talwar murder, alleging that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's decision to recommend a CBI probe into the case shows she has no faith in her state's police.

"People have been gradually losing faith in the state's police force. Now the Chief Minister has proved that she too has no faith in them," party's vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said here.

Seizing the opportunity to attack the BSP government, he said Uttar Pradesh has been witnessing a sort of "horror show" ever since Mayawati came to power and charged the Centre with turning a blind eye towards it.

A political war of words is already on over the murder of the teenaged girl with the BSP supremo accusing the Congress of "politicising" the case, a charge rejected by Union Minister Renuka Chowdhury.

Adding a new dimesion, Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal expressed Centre's reluctance to hand over the case to the CBI, immediately after Mayawati announced her decision to recommend a probe by the premier investigating
agency.

Naqvi sought to attach no importance to Jaiswal's remarks, saying he has no comments to offer on the "love-hate" relationship between Congress and Mayawati.
