JAMMU: The Department of Public Health Engineering (PHE) will take up digging up of 57 tube wells to come over the shortage of about 1.10 crore gallons of water in the city and suburbs.

The daily requirement of water is about 3.5 crore gallons, but the PHE provides only 2.40 crore gallons, making a shortage of 1.10 crore gallons, PHE chief engineer V K Goswami said on Thursday.

Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) will dig up 57 tube wells for the PHE by 2009 and 20 of them are expected to be over by June this year, he said.
