Woman raped in hotel, accused held

JAMMU: A 45-year-old woman was allegedly held in illegal confinement and raped in a hotel room here by a man on the pretext that he would arrange a job for her son, police said on Thursday.

Santosh Gupta of Bawe Wali Gali of Jammu was taken to a hotel at residency road last evening by accused Sat Pal Sharma of Gumat area of the city on the pretext that he would arrange a government job for her son Rajesh Gupta, they said.

After bolting the door from inside, the accused beat up the woman and raped her. After three hours, the woman managed to come out of the hotel and approached Pir Mitha police station, they said, adding she was asked to lodge her complaint at residency road police post.

Police have apprehended the rapist after a chase.

The woman was taken for medical examination and her statement has been recorded, police said.

A case of a rape has been registered and the investigations are on, they said.
