BERLIN: The prestigious Berlin Air Show opened here on Tuesday with India as guest of honour and defence minister AK Antony wooing foreign aviation giants to “proactively” tap the booming Indian market.

The biennial International Aerospace Exhibition is featuring India as the “partner country” this time to focus attention on the enormous opportunities for trade and investment in aviation and defence sectors in the country.

“Our strategic partnership with Germany has expanded to new sectors over the years. Germany is the second important source of technology for Indian companies and our largest trading partner in the European Union,” Antony said as he inaugurated the six-day event along with German chancellor Angela Merkel.
