Lawyer shot dead in Jharkhand

RANCHI: A lawyer was shot dead in Daltanganj district of Jharkhand ON Tuesday, the police said.

According to the police, Jawahar Singh was shot from close range in Daltangaj town when he was returning home from court. Two people came on a motorcycle and fired at him.

He was shot twice and died on the spot. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

The lawyers have condemned the incident. "We strongly condemn the killing of a lawyer in the state. The police should act fast to arrest the criminals," said Prem Chandra Tripathy, president of the Jharkhand Bar Council. 

The police suspect that the lawyer might have been killed due to a case he was handling.
According to family sources, Singh was getting threat calls for the past few days.
