BHOPAL: With a view to lessening pressure on forests, villagers at a meeting here demanded pressure cookers, solar cookers and LPG connections.

Their demand came at the general body meeting of the `Van Samitis' (forest committees), constituted under Joint Forest Management Committee which began here from 21 April, an official release said on Saturday.

The Samiti meeting will continue till April 26.

They also demanded cycles, mosquito net, blankets and torches to save time.

On the one hand information about Forest Department scheme is being given to villagers at these meetings, on the other they are being provided tips on collection of quality Tendu leaves.

On the issue of saving energy, the villagers said that they would like to have pressure cookers first and LPG connection would be their second priority. Half of the price of pressure cooker would be borne by the Samiti.

Similarly, the general meeting of the Samiti of Dharakho in Betul district was held in the presence of its president Suraj Dhurve where members were inspired to prepare biogas plants. Similar meetings were also held in many other villages, officials added.
