KANKERA: Hitting back at political opponents, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Saturday that the term 'Yuvraj' used for him was "insulting".

The 39-year-old Congress scion also took exception to his being projected as the future Prime Minister, saying he supports incumbent Manmohan Singh whom he described as "most capable".

"I feel the word 'Yuvraj' is insulting. India is a democratic country and this word has no meaning today," Gandhi said here when asked for his comments on calling him 'Yuvraj'.

His political opponents, specially Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, describes Gandhi as a 'Yuvraj' while attacking him.

The description of Gandhi as a "Yuvraj" of common man by a Congress member E M Sudarsana Natchiappan also sparked off an uproar in the Rajya Sabha on April 21 with BJP objecting to the use of the term as a blot on democracy.

When pointed out that a number of senior Congress leaders were projecting him as the future Prime Minister, Gandhi refused to comment.

But when persisted, he said, "If you ask me about my personal opinion, I support Manmohan Singh. I feel the most capable Prime Minister is Singh. I am behind him and I support him as the Prime Minister."

As media persons referred to Mayawati's claim that he uses a 'special soap' to bath after visiting Dalit houses, the Amethi MP stood on his chair and showed his soiled clothes to the tribals gathered there and quipped, "See my clothes, I do not use any special soaps. Can you make out anything?".

Gandhi has been in news for visiting Dalit homes and spending nights with the families. Recently on a tour to Bundelkhand, he dined with Dalit families irking Uttar Pradesh chief minister and BSP supremo Mayawati.

On his plans to revive Congress in Uttar Pradesh, he said, "I have just started and I will do more and more such things."
