Hand over Scarlett rape and murder case to CBI: BJP

NEW DELHI: BJP on Monday sought handing over of the Scarlett Eden Keeling rape and murder case to the CBI in the wake of the incident in Goa attracting international attention.
    
Senior party leader V K Malhotra said allegations have been levelled against state police and even the Home Minister of Goa and there was an attempt to torpedo the investigation in the initial stages.
    
"It seems to be a big conspiracy. The case should be given to the CBI so that a fair inquiry is conducted. The role of the drug and land mafia should also be looked into," he said here.
    
Fifteen-year-old Keeling, a British national, was allegedly drugged, raped and murdered on the state's popular Anjuna beach.
    
Malhotra also sought the Prime Minister's intervention to end the water crisis in Delhi, which he said was triggered by neighbouring Haryana's reluctance to share water.
    
He asked the Prime Minister to convene a meeting of the officials from Delhi and Haryana to end the standoff.
    
"Congress governments are there in Delhi, Haryana and at the Centre. He should take steps to ensure that Delhi gets water," he said.
