MUMBAI: A 31-year-old woman has lodged a complaint of physical and mental torture against her husband and two step sons.
Vasana, alias Sujata Surfraz Shah, a beautician, has alleged that Surfraz Shah, 48, had her confined in a godown at Beed in Marathwada for 17 days to extort property. She was administered injection and medicine laced with sedatives, she alleged.
In her complaint to the Shivaji Nagar police station in Beed city on March 1, Sujata said she had married Surfraz in 2002 and had been living with him in New Bangalipura, Dongri. It was the second marriage for the two. After the wedding, her husband suspected her character and harassed her physically and mentally.
His sons Rahil, 25, and Rajana, 22, administered her injection and medicine laced with sedatives on February 15 and took her in an unconscious state to Beed without her will, she said in the complaint. Later, They confined her in the godown of Bhakti Construction, she alleged.
Sujata said she managed to escape on March 1. She then approached the Shivaji Nagar police, who lodged a first information report (FIR) under sections 498 (a) (husband or relatives of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 327 (voluntarily causing hurt to extort property), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc, with the intent to commit an offence), and 342 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
“The case was transferred to the Dongri police station on Monday since it all started in Dongri,” Bharat Tambe, senior police inspector of the police station, said. The police would record the statement of the victim before taking further action, he said.
