MUMBAI: A car screeches to a halt outside a Bandra college, three youths get out, push a girl standing nearby into the waiting vehicle and speed away. Staple Bollywood fare except for the fact that the kidnap drama unfolding before passersby on Wednesday afternoon was real.
After getting to know that the girl he loved had got engaged to someone else, Nasir Khan, 25, along with two other friends kidnapped her around 2.30 pm.
According to the police, Amani Gollap, 19, was standing on the pavement outside MMK College on Linking Road when Khan, along with Saif Batliwala, 22, and Hussain Qureshi, 24, drove up in a black Hyundai Accent. Spotting Gollap, the trio got hold of her and dragged her into the car (MH-05-H-8019) and sped away.
An HSC student in Anjuman College, Bandra, Gollap had appeared for the accounts paper of her board exams and was waiting for her brother to pick her up when the incident took place, police said.
However, Santosh Yadav, who had witnessed the incident, jotted down the vehicle number and alerted the police.
The police control room sent a wireless message to patrolling vans across the city. The suspects were intercepted within 45 minutes near Dahisar check naka while trying to flee to Gujarat, said DCP Shivaji Bodke.
The trio told the police that they had planned to take Gollap to a hotel and convince her to marry Khan.
While Batliwala and Qureshi were commerce graduates and ran a mutton shop in Bandra, Khan dropped out of college after FYJC and ran a travel business.
The three have been arrested and will be produced in court on Thursday.
