Decide on vacant posts in a week, HC tells govt

The Bombay High Court on Thursday directed the state to inform them within a week the time it needed to fill up the vacant teachers posts at the Government Law College (GLC). The court also asked when the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) would fill up its internal vacancies.

Associate advocate general Ashutosh Kumbhakoni, however, said that of the 10 posts for permanent lecturers, five had been filled. He said the MPSC had issued advertisements for filling up the remaining five posts, four for law lecturers, and one for an English lecturer.

An affidavit submitted by Nilima Patwardhan, deputy secretary, MPSC, said the procedure of scrutiny of applications for the advertised posts of lecturers, the interviews and results would take at least take 55 days.

The commission was not only trying to clear the pending vacancies, but also to clear pending requisitions, the affidavit said.

Jamshed Mistry, counsel for the GLC alumni said that a room on the ground floor of the college is occupied by the state Election Commission. The court has also sought an explanation from the government in this matter.
