PUNE: The Pune rural police, who have been pursuing the 2007 rape-cum-murder of Wipro BPO employee Jyotikumari Chaudhari, has decided to apply the SC ruling relating to Som Mittal to their case.

Vishwas Nangre-Patil, superintendent of police (Pune rural), told DNA that every crime had “vicarious liabilities” under which the fixing of responsibility for the crime was done as per law. “The Supreme Court ruling in the HP case will help us in fixing the responsibilities in the Wipro BPO case,” Nangre-Patil said.

While the chargesheet in Jyotikumari’s case has been filed, the SC ruling throws up the possibility of the filing of a supplementary chargesheet against the senior managers of the company.

Nangre-Patil said BPO vehicles which ferry employees late at night need to be equipped with a GPS-tracking system and emergency switch to alert the control room of any untoward incident.

Jyotikumari, 22, was raped and killed on November 2, allegedly by her call centre cab driver Purshottam Borate and his friend, Pradeep Kokade off the Pune-Mumbai Expressway. Both were arrested.
