MUMBAI: Faheem Ahmed, who was arrested along with five other suspected Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) terrorists by the UP police recently, was to be brought to Mumbai on Thursday by the special task force (STF) of UP police.

“Faheem was scheduled to be brought to Mumbai by a UP police team on Thursday evening. But his flight was delayed and he is expected around 10 pm,” said joint commissioner of police and Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad Hemant Karkare told DNA.

Faheem, who hails from the city’s Goregaon locality, will be interrogated by the ATS in connection with the terror strikes they had planned on Bombay Stock Exchange and the Churchgate railway station, among other targets in the city. “Faheem and the other Lashkar militants had selected a wide range of targets across Mumbai. And, they were in the process of getting these targets cleared for attack by the Lashkar top brass in Pakistan,” said Amitav Yash, SSP, STF, UP police.

Maharashtra ATS officers are expected to take Faheem around the city on Friday to understand group’s modus operandi and co-ordination at grassroots level. Sources in the UP police told DNA that Ahmed and Sabauddin, both trained at terrorist camps at Muzzafarabad in Pakistan had been gleaning information about several important facilities across Mumbai for the last few months.
