MUMBAI: Juhu Vile Parle (JVPD) residents took to streets on Saturday to protest against Ronson Foundation for hacking down 25 coconut trees on a plot reserved for a recreation ground (RG).  Residents alleged that the trees were hacked on Friday to construct a club in the middle of the ground. What's more, the BMC's Tree Authority had given permissions to the Foundation to hack 25 trees.

"The Foundation have told the BMC that they will re-plant the trees but the damage is done," said Ashok Pandit, filmmaker and JVPD resident. "We have asked Uddhav Thackeray to intervene in the matter. The municipal commissioner Jairaj Phatak too has called for a meeting," added Pandit. In 2005, residents filed a PIL when they first heard that Ronsons planned to hack the trees.
