KAKINADA (Andhra Pradesh): Andhra Pradesh BCs 'Ayikya Sangharshana Samithi' President VGR Naragoni on Monday said all the Backward Classes would stand behind film actor Chiranjeevi, if he enters politics, provided he assures them 50 per cent seats in legislative bodies.

Talking to newspersons here, he said BCs should be given their legitimate share by allotting minimum 50 per cent seats in legislative bodies.

Maintaining that their demand was not unjust, he alleged that BCs constitute more than 60 per cent of the population, but the representation given to them so far was not even five per cent. Minimum 50 per cent seats in Legislature and Parliament should be earmarked to them in proportionate to their strength, he added.

Naragoni said his organisation was confident that Chiranjeevi would announce his political party within a month and the necessary spadework would be completed. Initial district level meetings were held by BC leaders and intellectuals cutting across party lines, inviting the oppressed sections, and the response has been tremendous and spontaneous, he added.

''The time is now ripe for Chiranjeevi. Everyone is looking forward to his leadership. He is the only force that can fill-up the political vacuum created by the continued misrule and oppression in the State,'' he alleged.

Recalling that Telugu Desam Party(TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu had already announced 35 per cent of seats in legislative bodies to the BCs, he, however, said the BCs would extend their support only to those, who offers maximum number of seats.

Earlier, Naragoni led the BCs rally that passed through the main streets and also staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate, seeking 50 per cent reservation in legislature and Parliament.
