Home dept wants alternative space

With an aim to maintain the police response time, the home department has decided to approach the BMC for allotting it space for the 136 police chowkies declared illegal by the Bombay High Court recently.

According to the home department, demolishing these chowkies without making alternative arrangements will hurt the police response time of seven minutes in case of complaints. So, the department, through its Urban Development department, now plans to approach the BMC for alternative space to build the chowkies. In fact, deputy chief minister RR Patil has told DNA that the alternative space for the chowkies will be found at the earliest.
