PATNA: All districts in Bihar were put on alert ahead of an Opposition-called bandh on Friday to protest the death of three demonstrators in police firing at Kahalgaon in Bhagalpur district.
 
"Special security arrangements would be made to protect vital installations, ensure smooth functioning of train services and traffic on roads," Additional Director General (Law and Order) Anil Sinha said.
 
Deployment of extra policemen in the sensitive areas in the districts has been initiated and police patrol would be intensified along national and state highways, Sinha said.
 
CPI-ML (Liberation) is also observing a state-wide bandh today to protest the police action.
 
Opposition parties, including RJD, Congress, CPI-M, CPI and NCP have called a Bihar bandh tomorrow to protest against 'unwarranted and unprovoked' police firing on January 17-18 on residents demanding adequate power supply from NTPC at Kahalgaon.
 
Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) of Ramvilas Paswan will observe a bandh on Friday but separately for the same cause.
