ADELAIDE: Indian students in the South Australian capital of Adelaide met their 'cricketing heroes' on Tuesday courtesy Australia India Business Council.

Adelaide which is all set to host the fourth and Final Test match between India and Australia on Thursday is becoming increasingly popular among Indian students whose numbers have jumped 28 per cent last year to more than 2600.

Officials of the the Education Adelaide the South Australian Government agency charged with promoting Adelaide internationally as a study destination said a handful of students met the Indian team members after Tuesday's practice session at Adelaide Oval.

Denise von Wald, Chief Executive, Education Adelaide said, "Adelaide Oval is recognised as one of the most beautiful grounds in the world it would be a travesty for Indian students in particular to return home without setting foot inside the ground."

The students' rendezvous did not end with just the meeting their favourite stars but courtesy South Australian Cricket Association (SACA)and Education Adelaide, a number of Indian students will watch the final test for free.

Officials said that free tickets to the first day of the Adelaide vs India Test on January 24 and also the one-day matches on February 17 and 19 have been given out to students.

"One of our goals at Education Adelaide  apart from attracting more students  is ensuring that they are made to feel welcomed while they're here, and this initiative is a part of that," Wald said in a statement.

He added, "Many of these students could never hope to meet their Indian cricketing heroes in India, so we thought it would be wonderful to organise a meeting between the cricketers and their fans here in Adelaide."

SACA Chief Executive Mike Deare said the Indian and Sri Lankan tour provides the perfect platform to introduce Adelaide's growing student community to the renowned Adelaide Oval.
