NEW DELHI: In view of the severe cold wave conditions in the capital, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Friday decided to shut its schools till January 13.

"Children were facing problems in attending classes, especially in morning shifts, as an intense cold wave condition is prevailing in the city. The guardians of the children were also requesting for this, therefore we have decided to close the schools from January five to 13," MCD spokesman Deep Mathur said.

The civic body runs over a thousand schools across the city where nearly one million children are enrolled.

These schools had reopened on January one after 12 days of winter vacation.

MCD-affiliated schools will also remain closed during this time, Mathur added.

The city has been in the grip of a cold wave for last few days with the minimum temperature fluctuating between two and three degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature had fallen to 1.9 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
