CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Tuesday said his government had enough money for flood relief works and had a dig at AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa's suggestion that the money spent on distribution of free colour TV sets by his government be diverted for the relief works.

"Do not worry and shed crocodile tears. We have enough funds for flood relief works and for colour TV scheme," he said, launching the free distribution of sarees and dhoties to the poor for Pongal, the harvest festival of the state which falls on January 15.

He also had a dig at actor-turned-politician Vijaykant, who had reportedly criticised the saree distribution scheme. The scheme was only to provide relief for those who did not even have a spare cloth to change daily, he said.

He said 1.65 crore sarees and an equal number of dhotis would be distributed in the state at a cost of Rs.250 crore this year.
