MUMBAI: A teacher working in a secondary school at suburban Vakola has been booked for allegedly assaulting students while on a picnic in the state's Raigad district, police said on Saturday.

The incident occurred when over 150 eighth and ninth standard students of Pathak Technical School here had gone for an excursion in the forest near Karjat town in the district last week.

"On Wednesday night, the touring party was staying in a government rest house in the forest. The students refused to go to sleep and kept on howling and making noises saying a 'ghost' had come," a senior official of the Vakola police station said.

In order to keep the situation under control, one of the teachers, identified as Kadam, allegedly caned some students.

When the tour ended on schedule the next day, a student approached the Vakola police. Later, a complaint was filed at the Karjat police station yesterday where the offence has occurred.

"He has suffered simple injuries and the injury marks were visible on his body," the official said adding further investigations are on.
