The Maratha Warriors coach is confident that his team will sail into the semis

MUMBAI: Maratha Warriors coach Clarence Lobo is keeping his fingers crossed as his team begins its campaign in the 4 th Premier Hockey League in Chandiragh on December 20.

Lobo’s team will play Chennai Veerans in their opening match.

Caught between school hockey and other engagements, the players suffered major distraction as they had gathered for an eight-day conditioning camp at the Mahindra Stadium.

However, as the team packed its bag for the big league, coach Lobo said: “We are confident to make it to semis.

And if I get a good drag flicker, we will come back champions,” Lobo, who had helped the team bag the bronze in his last assignment, said.

Ironically, Lobo is oblivious of the three foreigners, who will be in the side for the PHL. We have heard that 21 foreign players are called for the league, but till now we have received no confirmation.

Apart from the cold and drag flicker, the side will have to forfeit striker, who has been summoned for the Indian junior camp.

“It’s good that a player has been picked for the Indian camp,” said Lobo though he rued that his presence could have given the team a better chance in the league.

Lobo, however looked content with his side and pinned his hopes on mid-fielders — Viren Rasquinha, Vikram Pillay and Tyron D’Souza. The squad will be announced on Sunday.
