Vishnu Prasanna upsets Iranian Alavi Sayed Javed, jumps into joint lead

MUMBAI: Upsets ruled the roost on the first two days of the Asian Junior Chess Championship, and it was no different on the third day as third seed Alavi Sayed Javed from Iran went down to Vishnu Prasanna of India at Goregaon Sports Complex here on Friday.

Playing with black pieces, Prasanna sealed the victory in 47 moves. The 18-year-old from Chennai was pretty happy with his effort.

“This is my second international tournament and I’m pleased with my effort so far in the tourney,” said Prasanna.

Concerning his victory over the third seed, Prasanna said, “The game was balanced till the 14th move, but he committed mistakes in the following two moves, which tilted the advantage in my favour.
