Tahir Hussain gives up custody of son, says Aamir can take charge

Actor Aamir Khan’s father Tahir Hussain withdrew his application for his son Faisal’s custody on Saturday, adding a new twist to the ongoing battle in the actor’s family.

Husain cited reasons like Faisal insisting on living separately, and not being in touch with his father. Husain said Faisal’s custody may be granted to Aamir. Faisal, however, said he would not be happy with that.

Talking to DNA on Saturday, Faisal said: “My father is under financial stress and his flat is under litigation. He needs Rs22 lakh and only Aamir bhai can help him. That is why my father is on his side now.”

Faisal also moved another application saying he is mentally and physically fit and does not require guardianship.

“I want to be free to do my work. I can take care of myself.”

Faisal’s advocate SA Vasid said, “We have filed an application seeking to be relieved of custodianship. The court has asked Faisal to submit his address and furnish a bond saying he will be present for all hearings. The next hearing is on December 17.”

The family tussle began after Faisal went missing from his Bandra home on September 29. Aamir, with his mother Zeenat and sister Nikhat, challenged Husain’s custody of Faisal.

A medical report submitted by Dr RM Haridas of JJ Hospital, Faisal suffers from schizophrenia-affective psychosis, and should be kept in the care of a ‘responsible family member’.

Faisal claimed he was kept under ‘house arrest’ by Aamir between February 2005 and January 2006.
