MUMBAI: The much-awaited meeting between the BCCI president Sharad Pawar and selection committee chairman Dilip Vengsarkar has not happened. Though the two met on Friday evening for the first time after the recent resignation drama by the chief selector, they did not have enough time to discuss issues.

Now, the meeting is scheduled to take place on Saturday morning at the Cricket Centre here.

Both Pawar and Vengsarkar shared the same platform at a Mumbai Cricket Association function at the Bandra-Kurla Complex on Friday evening. But due to lack of time and privacy, they have postponed the meeting. Pawar one learns, has given Vengsarkar an audience at 11.30 am.

But it is learnt that the two had a brief meeting in the presence of BCCI president-elect Shashank Manohar. Later, they were joined by BCCI treasurer N Srinivasan and secretary Niranjan Shah. But it was decided that the formal meeting was postponed.

Vengsakar it is learnt is confident of impressing upon Pawar his reservations against the seven-point guidelines by the Board but some officials of the BCCI, who DNA spoke to, said there has not been any discussion on the compensation for the chief selector (for not writing his column) nor any plan to lift the guidelines.

“No Board official is in favour of extending any relief,” a top board functionary told DNA categorically adding: “If the chief selector wants he may resign.”

It is believed that the Board members are upset by the mention of top BCCI officials’ names by Vengsarkar in his famous e-mail to Pawar. However, the Board mandarins feel if Pawar wants, some compensation can be extended to Vengsarkar.

“We can’t overrule what the president says. It waits to be seen what happens,” the official said. Meanwhile, the finance committee, which met here on Friday afternoon, did not take up any compensation package for the selectors. An official, who was present at the meeting, said the committee decided to change the travel rules of all the Board members by doubling the daily allowances.

It means the selectors, and also the officials, who were getting Rs 5,000 per day and Rs 7,000 per trip, will be entailed for Rs 10,000 per day and Rs 10,000 per trip. The proposal, however, has to be approved by the working committee which is meeting here on Sunday.
