AHMEDABAD: The ruling-BJP on Friday released its manifesto for the upcoming Assembly elections in Gujarat, promising to make a 'Garibi Mukt Gujarat'.

"Garibi mukt Gujarat (poverty-free state) is the number one promise that we have made in this manifesto," said Gujarat BJP President Purshottam Rupala while releasing the document in presence of senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley and state Finance Minister Vaju Vala.

"We will also provide housing to all the homeless in urban and rural areas," Rupala added.

If returned to power, the party has promised that Gujarat will work towards achieving 12 per cent economic growth in the next five years, Rupala said.

"This growth will be achieved by doubling our agriculture production."

Rupala said farmers of Gujarat will be given 14-hour uninterrupted electricity as compared to eight hours being provided now.

The party has also promised to reduce the water tax meant for irrigation.

"All the electricity needs of the farmers can be fulfilled as Gujarat has targeted to produce 20,000 mega watt of electricity in the coming years," Rupala added.

The two phase polls for the 182-member Assembly will be held on December 11 and 16.
