MUMBAI: Shiv Sena on Thursday announced it will launch an agitation over the issue of bogus voter ID cards. Sena deputy divisional chief Muthu Thevar said, “We have received many complaints of bogus voter ID cards being issued in Dharavi. Party executive president Uddhav Thackeray has directed us to expose this bogus voter ID card racket. We shall do it in our usual Sena style.”

Reacting to the developments, state BJP spokesman Madhav Bhandari demanded a probe into the matter. “The abnormal increase in number of voters being registered especially in constituencies like Bhandup, Ghatkopar and Kurla needs to be screened thoroughly.

The issue must be looked at from the angle of illegal immigrants like Bangladeshis coming into the city. Obtaining a voter ID card is the first step of any illegal immigrants towards Indian citizenship.”
