NEW DELHI: BCCI President Sharad Pawar on Tuesday rubbished media reports that Gary Kirsten is delaying his decision to take over as India's cricket coach sensing a possible opposition from the senior members of the team.

Pawar said Kirsten did write to the Board seeking some clarifications but it had nothing to do with what senior players thought of him.

"I read reports claiming he is delaying it because he wants to know if some players are opposed to his appointment or not. This is not true."

"He has written about a few issues, including seeking some facilities for his family. Coaching India means he would have to stay here months after months. He has got two kids and he has some responsibilities towards his family," Pawar said.

Earlier, Board vice-president Rajiv Shukla also dismissed reports, claiming some senior players were unhappy with Kirsten's appointment.

"It's all rubbish. Kirsten has written to the Board President seeking some clarifications on certain terms and conditions in his contract. There is no question of him being apprehensive about the senior players," Shukla said.

He was reacting to reports that claimed the senior members of the Indian team were of the view that the current set-up - with manager Lalchand Rajput, bowling coach Venkatesh Prasad and fielding coach Robin Singh - had delivered the goods and the Board should continue with them.
