AMETHI: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Sunday flayed the Uttar Pradesh government for severe power crisis in the state and said it was the duty of the state to ensure proper power supply for all-round development of the state.

"It is the responsibility of the state to ensure adequate power supply without which new industries cannot be established... It is possible only if the state ensures power to them", Rahul said while addressing foundation laying ceremony of an ordinance factory here in his constituency on the second and last day of his visit.

Rahul said he was not doing anything new in his constituency but merely following the vision of development presented by his father Rajiv Gandhi.

He said he wanted to see the various projects in his constituency like the setting up of a HAL unit , Sanjay Gandhi and Indira Gandhi hospitals among others to run in a coordinated manner so as to achieve world standards.

He said the new ordinance factory would give direct employment opportunities to 1,500 people and indirect employment to 5,000 people including locals.

The Congress General Secretary expressed happiness that in the recent army recruitment camp, 400 youth of his constituecny were enrolled.

Youth are enrolled by the army for the defence of the country and it is important that they are equipped with world class arms so as to avoid casualties and unnecessary loss of life, Gandhi said.

He hoped that like the ordinance factory, the new units of BHEL, also coming up in Amethi, would also generate employment for the youth.

On the second and final day of his visit to Amethi, the young Congress gun said it was his dream to make Amethi a hub of developmental activities.

He hoped the arms, including carbines, produced in the factory would be of high quality.

Minister of State for Defence Rao Indrajit Singh was also present on the occasion.
