NEW DELHI: BJP on Wednesday came out in support of making Hindi the official language along with English in High Courts and the Supreme Court.

It said regional languages are already used in High Courts across the country and supported the three-language formula.

"Along with English, Hindi should be used in High Courts and the Supreme Court," BJP Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha, V K Malhotra said.

The issue rocked Lok Sabha on Wednesday when members from Tamil Nadu opposed a recommendation of the Official Languages Committee of Parliament to make Hindi an official language in higher courts.

Malhotra also demanded an apology from the Assam government on the "shameful" incident of stripping of a tribal woman in Guwahati.

"Neither the Centre nor the Congress government in Assam has condemned the incident. Had it been a BJP-ruled state, there would have been a hue and cry over the issue," he said.
