Father says that doctors have told him that he may not be able to use his hands again

A youth from Mumbra suffered 40 per cent burns when he fell on a frying pan full of boiling oil after he was allegedly pushed by a fast food outlet owner over payment of Re1. The incident occurred on November 3.

Intekhab Alam, 23, an accountant by profession and a resident of Kausa in Mumbra, had been to the Iqra Fast Food in Amrut Nagar when a quarrel took place between him and the owner of the fast food outlet over the price of a plate of seekh kabab.

Alam argued with Sikander MA Khan, owner of the eatery, that he was charging a rupee more than the original price. Alam suffered severe burns on his face, both the hands, chest and stomach.

Alam’s initial treatment was being carried out at the Rehmani Hospital in Mumbra but as his family could not afford his treatment they shifted him on November 12 to JJ hospital.

Senior police inspector of Mumbra police station Arun Sonde said, “When we were informed by hospital authorities about Alam’s case, our officials went to the hospital and took his statement.

He clearly told us that it was due to dizziness that he fell on the pan which was filled with hot oil. Also, he clearly told us that no one had pushed him and he fell on the frying pan himself.”

Alam’s father Mohammad Azeem Khan who is an professional accountant was livid with anger on the police attitude.

He said, “Alam had gone to outlet after completing his work on the evening of November 3. The food stall owner quarreled with him for one rupee and then pushed him. Doctors at JJ Hospital have said that he will not be able to work with his hands now.”

Khan further added, “I approached the Mumbra police to register a complaint against Khan but they did not listen to me.

I have now filed a complaint application at Thane police commissioner’s office but despite that there has been no action against the accused.”

When Alam was contacted at the hospital, he said, “I was in a semi-conscious state when police took my statement so I do not remember what I told them. It was Sikander who pushed me.”

When contacted, Khan told DNA, “Alam had come to our place in the evening and had a plate of seekh kabab. Also, he told us that he was short by a rupee but after that he started feeling dizzy and fell on the pan which was filled with boiling oil.

I rushed him to Rehmani Hospital and informed his family about the accident but the allegation which they are making now are completely false and baseless.”

Senior PI Sonde said, “Alam’s father has till date not visited the police station with any such complaint.”
