CHENNAI: Taking a cue from the critical remarks of the AICC over a poem written by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi eulogising slain LTTE leader S P Tamil Selvan, the Tamil Nadu Pradesh Congress Committee on Monday demanded stern action by the state government against the supporters of the banned outfit.

TNCC President M Krishnaswamy, attending office for the first time after he was attacked by unidentified persons in Ramanathapuram district on October 29, told reporters that the activities of LTTE supporters should not be tolerated.

He said the "elements", praising the slain LTTE political wing secretary Tamilselvan, should be dealt with firmly.

The AICC in a resolution had said that sentiments were bound to get hurt by such eulogies.

On the attack on him, Krishnaswamy said the police should take action against those responsible for it. Already some people have been arrested in this connection, he said.

The state government has ordered a probe by a senior IAS officer M Farooki.

Condemning the attack on the Tamil Nadu Youth Congress President Mayura S Jayakumar, he said violence had no place in the Congress. Action would be taken against those responsible for the attack.

Earlier, he paid floral tributes to late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 90th birth anniversary. He garlanded the huge portrait of the late leader at the TNCC headquarters.
