New institute to offer 53 programmes in strategy management

KOLKATA: If you think only corporates need to strategise in boardrooms, think again. Everyone needs to strategise in a competitive market place by being different.

A new organisation is all set to start off in full force soon-The Strategy Academy-conceived and set up by Ranjan Das, coveted professor of strategic management of IIM Calcutta.

The Strategy Academy, India’s first live digital audio-video institution, would offer courses in strategic management, a wee bit different from the B-schools of course, to both corporates and non-corporates.

There would be modules for students over 18 years making a career choice, NGOs, homemakers, family businesses and political parties. Both national and international professors are being linked up for the exercise.

Sharing some of his plans, Ranjan Das told DNA Money, “There is a need to demystify strategy at all levels. One does not have to go to a business school to learn strategy. I am on a 2-year sabbatical at present from IIM and it is my vision to provide the best of courses to people to help them undergo an internal transformation.”

Das would be the president and CEO of the Academy.

Asked whether there would be a need for capital to take it forward, Das said, “Don’t ask me about the initial investment.

I contributed my life’s savings to build up this Academy and promise to make it big in three years’ time. I would not require any immediate funds right now, atleast for one year. The theme is StrategyFirst-for all, by all.

Everyone has the capacity to pursue their ambition and develop the strategy needed for the purpose.”

“At the IIMs, about 10% of the course is for strategic management, while 90% of it encompasses functional and general management courses.

With competition and increasing risk factors, there needs to be an increased focus on strategy for common people too. It’s all about being different in the market place.

We will be offering 53 programmes ranging from short- to long-term courses to suit all types of students. The institute would award a certificate at the end of the chosen programme,” Das added.
