The left-arm spinner from Rizvi returns with figures of 6-31

MUMBAI: Rizvi Sports Club’s left-arm spinner Alpesh Ramjani spelt the doom around the Elf Vengsarkar’s Cricket Academy with a rich haul of 6 for 31 as the former lined-up a repeat of the Ajit Naik memorial under-15 cricket final against Shivaji Park Gymkhana slated for November 16 and 17.

In the two-day second semifinal at the Worli Sports here on Wednesday, Rizvi got the better of Elf Academy by the virtue of the first innings lead.

It has been a good season for this VIII standard student from Rizvi School, Alpesh who was brought in as the third change to rip through the opposition’s batting line. “I did get some turn, I beat the batsmen flighting the ball in the air and they fell prey,” summed up Alpesh after the match. “This is the best figure, and I am proud I was instrumental propelling the team to the third consecutive final,” he added.

Top scorer Salman Charolia got the first break through for the Rizvi when had Omkar Bhoir, as the Elf Academy where going steady with 20 runs on the board, chasing 271 set by the Rizvi in their first stay.

It was Alpesh who stole the match from Elf’s hands. He did contain the rival’s with some accurate bowling to finish his first spell at 1 for 17in his four over spell. “I attacked the stumps and did not give any room for the batsmen to have a go at me,” said Alpesh about his first spell. But it was second spell of 8.2 overs which snatched the match from the Elf with five for 14 in his 8.2 overs second spell. Elf’s were bowled out for 181.
