They registered their third win on the trot in Super Division

MUMBAI: Central Railway Mumbai Division continued its fine run of form in the Mahindra Mumbai Football League as they completed their third successive win in the Super Division, registering a comfortable 2-0 win over Companeros at the Cooperage ground on Sunday.

With this, the railmen have taken themselves to nine points with three wins from as many games.

Central Railway forward Amiruddin Ansari was the star of the day, scoring a brace - one in each half of his team’s convincing victory.

The battle, which began at a slow pace, was transformed in to an exciting affair when Companeros missed an opportunity in the 24th minute to take the lead - thanks to Railway’s goalkeeper Manoj Nair, who saved a powerpacked kick from Avalon D’Souza, with a single handed stop.

Having been defenced minded initially, Railway changed gear and played aggressive football which saw them break the deadlock in the 33rd minute through Ansari, who was clever enough not to miss the chance and tapped into the net from a throw in.

Coming into the second half, Companeros got a couple of opportunities but failed to capitalise on it. For Railway, Ansari enhanced the margin and sealed the result with a 70th minute strike, this time off a corner.

In the senior division clash played earlier in the day Sagar Sports Club edged past Wellington Sports Club 2-1.
