KANPUR: At least a dozen of cricket fans were injured as police resorted to lathicharge to control the crowd at the Green Park Stadium during the third India-Pakistan one-dayer here on Sunday.

The organisational flaws were evident from the fact that while the stands were packed to capacity, a number of ticket-holders waited outside trying in vain to gain entry into the stadium, which is holding an international match after a gap of two-and-a-half years.

At the student gallery and gate No. 6, police resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd that left some of them injured.

Also, fans wearing black clothes were denied entry by the local administration ahead of Chief Minister Mayawati's visit to the venue, leading to skirmishes between fans and police.

Students and fans staged protests and raised slogans against the police.
