Man mowed down by police jeep, mob torches vehicle

DEWAS (MP): One person was killed and another injured after being hit by a police jeep at Bagli town near here on Sunday, triggering protest from locals who set afire the vehicle and staged a roadblock demanding action against the policemen involved in the accident.
    
Police used mild force to control the crowd that tried to attack a police station and the office of Sub-divisional Officer of Police (SDOP), Superintendent of Police I P Kulshreshta said over phone.
    
The crowd became violent after a police jeep hit two persons, killing one on the spot and injuring the other, he said, adding it torched the vehicle and staged a roadblock demanding immediate action against the jeep driver and the other policeman travelling in the vehicle.
    
Senior officers rushed to the spot and additional forces were deployed to bring the situation under control, he added.
    
Protests calmed down after a dialogue between police officers and villagers, Kulshreshta said, adding action will be taken against the home guard jawan, who was driving the police vehicle, and the other accompanying him.
    
The situation was peaceful and under control, he added.
