MUMBAI: The police suspect an insider may be involved in the “leftover” theft of around Rs11.70 lakh, after the burglary by four minor boys in a bungalow in Kandivili.
The case took a new angle after Chetan Desai, who has interests in the construction business, told the Samta Nagar police that the cash that was stolen had been stored in the cupboard and was meant for salaries to 40 construction labourers, truck drivers and few other employees who worked for him.
“It is quite possible that one of the workers had an idea that Desai would keep the cash in the bungalow prior to Diwali,” said Maruti Sakpal, senior police inspector, Samta Nagar police station.
On October 27, the four teenage boys broke into a bungalow while the owner was away. While, the owner claimed that cash and gold worth Rs11.70 lakh was missing, the police only managed to recover cash and valuable worth Rs1.5 lakh.
