JAIPUR: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) will investigate  he opium case against BJP leader Jaswant Singh and his party colleagues, including three Rajasthan ministers and the chief whip in the state assembly, official sources said here on Friday.

The party leaders were booked under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act for serving and consuming drinks laced with opium at a traditional gathering held at Singh’s ancenstral home in Jasol on October 31.

An investigation officer will be appointed as soon as the case file arrives at the police headquarters in Jaipur, official, sources said.

Besides Singh, the nine others booked in connection with the case are Raghuveer Singh Kaushal, Lalit Kishore Chaturvedi and Kailash Meghwal (all MPs), state cabinet ministers GS Tiwari, NS Rajvi, Madan Dilawar, chief whip Mahaveer Prasad Jain and two BJP MLAs Jogeshwar Garg and SS Rajpurohit.
