After a three-month long drive against beggars at both the International and domestic airports, the Western Region police have succeeded in driving them away from the sensitive spots and installations.

Apart from being an eyesore, the beggars would prod travellers at the airport. According to a senior airport administration official, the problem worsened when the airport was privatised and the security was handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

Archana Tyagi, additional commissioner of police, Western Region, launched a concerted drive three months ago. “Not just the beggars, we have also removed unauthorised exchangers. We are now focusing on the menace of so-called hotel representatives and errant cabbies,” she said.
