KOLKATA: The CBI team, investigating the mysterious death of graphics designer Rizwanur Rahman, is trying to find out the whereabouts of Rizwanur for eight days before his death.
Even after several rounds of cross examinations of Rizwanur’s family members and friends, the CBI is yet to get any information about his whereabouts from September 9 to September 16, 2007.
Rizwanur’s bother, Rukbanur’s statements to the CBI have further added to the confusion since he said he was ignorant of where Rizwanur was during those eight days.
According to CBI sources, Rukbanur told the CBI that probably during those days his brother was staying with one of his friends. But after talking to Rizwanur’s friends and his Arena Mulitmedia colleagues, the CBI could find no clue.
In the second round of investigations, the CBI on Monday questioned one inspector and two sub-inspectors of Kareya police station, where Rizwanur had filed a diary pre-empting life threat.
The CBI has also issued notices to the former assistant commissioner (anti-rowdy squad) Sukanti Chakrabarty and sub-inspector Krishnendu Das, both of whom were allegedly involved in trying to coerce Rizwanur to break off his marriage to Priyanka Todi, daughter of industrialist Ashoke Todi
According to CBI sources, September 7 was the last day that Rizwanur spent the night at his ancestral house at Tiljala lane in Kolkata.
He left from his Tiljala house on the morning of September 8 and took shelter at his friend Swapnil Sengupta’s house.
According to Sengupta’s statement to the CBI, Rizwanur was at his place for the entire day and the first half of September 9.
However, what no one can tell yet is where Rizwanur was from September 9 to September 16.
On September 17, Rizwanur came to Rukbanur’s house at CIT Road and stayed there till the morning of September 19.
Then he shifted to his aunt’s place at Samsul Huda Road, where he stayed till September 21.
On the morning of September 21, he left his aunt’s place. Hours later his body was found.
The CBI is trying to get answers to some vital questions. Were his family members not aware of his whereabouts? If so, why didn’t they enquire about him? Where and whom was he staying with?
