Russian wrestler tenders apology

Russian wrestler George Kiriakou along with several other foreign and Indian wrestlers, came to Circuit House where the meeting of the local journalists was in progress in this regard.

LUDHIANA: Russian wrestler George Kiriakou, also known as Nikita, on Sunday on tendered unconditional apology to all the Indians and particulary to the local media with whom he had misbehaved during a press conference here on October 25.

He, along with several other foreign and Indian wrestlers, came to Circuit House where the meeting of the local journalists was in progress in this regard.

Expressing his regrets he said, "I have a great respect and regard for India as a country. My anger was due to emotional outburst resulting from sudden cancellation of Wrestling matches for which I was preparing with great enthusiasm to perform before the people of India."

"I hereby take back all the indecent words uttered during the press conference and I hereby promise that in future also I will refrain from such behaviour which may intend to hurt any class of people or country," he said.

Later a compromise was signed between the journalists and the wrestlers and the district administration was urged to withdraw the FIR registered against Nikit and others
