KOLKATA: West Bengal government and the Kolkata Police authorities have handed over to CBI the required documents concerning the unnatural death of computer graphics teacher Rizwanur Rehman who had married the daughter of a Hindu industrialist.

The state government, which had earlier assured all cooperation and assistance to the CBI probing the Rizwanur death case, has already handed over the documents collected by the CID in the case, state Home Secretary P R Roy said on Tuesday.

"We have already handed over the documents to the CBI and will soon send in more such papers to the investigating agency", Roy said.

Kolkata Police Commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakraborty, who replaced Prasun Mukherjee who had come under scanner in connection with Rizwanur's death, met Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee at the Writers' Buildings during the day.

Chakraborty said if necessary, he might visit the relatives of Rizwanur Rehman at their Tiljala house.

To a question, he said the police had provided all protection to Rizwanur's brother Rukbanur after he was allegedly threatened.

Meanwhile, two Ministers on Monday questioned the justification of both CBI and judicial inquiries into Rizwanur Rehman's death.

While Water Resources and Investigation Minister Nandagopal Bhattacharya (CPI) found no justification of the judicial probe, PWD Minister Kshiti Goswami (RSP) was of the view that the simultaneous judicial inquiry would only create confusion in the government circle as also in people's mind.

"A decision to this effect (to withdraw judicial inquiry) will only be taken by the Chief Minister",Goswami said.

The Chief Minister, at his last press conference on October 17, had said both CBI and the judicial inquiry could go on simultaneously.
