High court judgment documents atrocities of politicians, police officers

SRINAGAR: Ministers and police officers in Jammu and Kashmir are exploiting poverty, unemployment and militancy to force young girls into flesh trade.

Take the case of Gulshan alias Pepsi, who was allegedly forced to have sex with SSP Ashkoor Wani for securing the release of her jailed husband, as per the high court judgment in the infamous sex-for-favours scandal that is rocking the Valley.

“When I did not hear about my husband for long, I sought Sabina’s (alleged kingpin of the scandal) help to get him released from jail…She took me to Ashkoor Wani in the police control room and told me to satisfy him if I wanted my husband back… Under the circumstances, I had no choice. Ashkoor bolted the room from inside and had sexual intercourse with me on the sofa of his office room,” Gulshan told investigators.

Wani denied the allegation. “I have never spoken to any girl named Gulshan alias Pepsi… I do not know any person named Gulzar Ahmad, stated to be her husband. I do not recollect whether any such person was detained under the PSA in 2004,” Wani told the interrogators.

A second case is equally heartrending. Poverty-stricken Nelofar was forced to have sex with the police officer she approached for getting a 90-day wage order for her brother.
“Six years ago, SSP Niyaz Mahmood promised me that he will get a job for my brother…But when I went to his office, he persuaded me to have sexual intercourse with him. Fifteen days later, he handed me the appointment order of my brother,” she said. Sabina has named minister Hakim Mohd Yasin for demanding a girl.

“Once he told me to provide him with a beautiful girl. I took Nuzhat alias Shabnam to Circuit House, near Radio Kashmir. He had sex with Nuzhat in one room while I was made to wait in another. He paid Rs5,000 to me, of which I gave Rs4,000 to Nuzhat in his presence,” she said.

Following the startling revelations by the girls, the high court rapped the accused saying, “Visibly, they are more dangerous than those challenging the system from
outside.”

“I feel duty-bound to warn the state apparatus of the extremely hazardous repercussions for the system if thequestions arising out of this case are not effectively a nswered and now,” said justice Bashir Ahmad Kirmani.
