HOUSTON: The Indian American community in Texas are eagerly awaiting the visit of former President A P J Abdul Kalam, who will deliver a presentation on "space science and technology" at Rice University here on October 18.
    
The presentation is part of Rice University President's lecture series and is co-hosted by James A Baker III Institute of Public Policy and Rice's Chao Centre for Asian Studies.

Kalam, known as 'father of the Indian Missile Programme', will discuss the challenges and opportunities of space science and technology during the free public lecture.
   
He is scheduled to meet the Indian American community at a luncheon arranged by the Houston India House which initiated his visit in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
   
Kalam is a visiting professor at the Indian Institute of Science, India's premier graduate research institute, where he conducted his early research. His autobiography, "Wings of Fire," is also a biography of India's space science research and should enhance the viewpoints he will present at Rice.
